Year 6 have been immersing themselves in an amazing true story: Shackleton’s Journey. Just over a century ago, Ernest Shackleton and his crew set off from South Georgia on their expedition to cross the Weddell Sea in their ship, Endurance. They wanted to be the first to cross the icy, harsh landmass of Antarctica.
Year 6 began their reading journey by drawing inspiration from the illustrator’s choice of book cover. The children also focused on a particular crew member, carrying out research to write a fact file and a logbook entry for their chosen crew member, to help consolidate their learning.
