With the 11+ exams behind them, and the results eagerly awaited, Year 6 also have something else to look forward to soon.
On their return from a much anticipated February half-term break, they will be embarking on an exciting eight-week Business and Young Enterprise course, "Putting Young Minds to Work", run by Stride Learning LLP. The learning theme for Year 6 this spring is Innovation and this course is a great opportunity to develop enterprise and employability skills and learn about careful money management, as the children will be tasked with setting up and running a mini-business.
Year 6 will work in teams to come up with product ideas, buy raw materials with a Stride cash loan, pitch business plans to a “Dragon’s Den” panel, and make and then sell products at an Enterprise Fair which will be held on Thursday 7th May. The course will run over eight weeks, taking place for 90 minutes every Thursday afternoon. It will be challenging - teamwork is not always easy - but the children will learn to persevere in a purposeful learning environment and make their businesses happen. At the end of the course, the children will receive Stride Accreditation certificates and there are awards for the 'Most Profitable Business' and 'Perfect Pitch Winners'. Weston Green will benefit too, as all profits from sales will go back to the school.
