Time flies in Year 1

Time flies in Year 1

The staff at Weston Green School are delighted with how quickly the children have settled into the routines of Year 1. Since the beginning of the year, they have matured and shown a great determination to improve as learners, challenging themselves and encouraging their peers to do the same.

We are extremely proud of all of the children for their sense of ownership and responsibility of their work, particularly as it is a very different learning style to that of Reception. The children enjoy writing in their English books, remembering all the features of a ‘Golden Sentence’ and also recording maths challenges and number sentences in their squared maths books. They are becoming more independent each day, working hard to record their ideas in a clear and legible way.

We have thoroughly enjoyed Forest School each week, along with our trips to Hampton Court Palace and Leeds Castle. Such exciting experiences have further fuelled our passion for learning about the Tudors. We have even time travelled back as far as the medieval times with our exploration of castles, The Bayeux Tapestry and The Battle of Hastings. We look forward to the excitement and learning opportunities that the Spring Term brings. Watch this space...look out for us on Weston Green’s Twitter and Facebook pages to see the wonders we have been up to!
