On Tuesday afternoon, Years 4, 5 and 6 were excited by their visit from the Young Shakespeare Company who were performing Hamlet. The sheer brilliance of the actors caught us all by surprise. There was a genuine sense of trepidation and anguish in the hall and as the action unfolded; we were held completely spellbound.
Introducing and continuing to expose pupils to the very best literature, such as that of Shakespeare, not only teaches them about the rich dense language of his time, but it also presents them with a wide range of complex characters and scenarios. Shakespeare's work was written for the stage and therefore a production such as this is the best way to fully appreciate it, rather than just reading it on the page. Year 6 will be studying Hamlet for themselves, later this term.
At the end of a very dramatic afternoon, the actors applauded the children and thanked them for their fantastic audience participation.
