Amidst great anticipation, Mr Harrison launched the theme for this year’s individual research projects in an assembly at the beginning of term. Rather than choosing to focus on any single area, a general theme of ‘Exploration’ was given to the children - they will be able to choose any aspect of the theme and relate it to any one or more of a number of significant anniversaries that fall during 2018. Many of these were discussed with the children during the assembly.
They can select the medium for their chosen topic and this means it is a truly individual project and can play to the strengths of every child. Some highly creative pieces are produced each year.
Mr Harrison stressed that the project needs to be the work of the individual child - they will need to work like the badger, rather than the bee from our Learner Profile - this is not a task for collaboration, although there will undoubtedly be important conversations to be had at home.
The deadline for letting class teachers know what their area of focus will be is 25th January. The date for completion of the project is not until early next term, so there is plenty of time for inspired thinking, researching and creating.
