At Weston Green School, children are given the opportunity to explore and learn in different environments, because we recognise that inspiring learning takes place in a variety of ways, including through discussion, research and trips. Following the children’s own interests means that these trips are planned to ensure that pupils are inspired and want to learn more.
Our recent trip to Kew Gardens supported our science topic of Plants and gave children a first-hand experience of the amazing world that we live in. Year 1 looked at plants from different climates and how these are very different to the plants that they may be used to. This inspired the children to ask more questions during our workshop and to learn about the value of plants in our everyday life. It gave them an opportunity to discuss with peers and adults, the significance of plants that they may not have considered before. Our subsequent science lessons will be led by their inspiration at Kew Gardens.
