On Friday 24th January, Year 1 became time traveller explorers and went back to 1912, just in time to explore what it would have been like to be a part of the Titanic.
Year 1 had the opportunity to explore what it may have been like to be first, second and third-class passengers and the service that each of these classes would have received on board the Titanic. The children then undertook different roles such as architects, builders, engineers, painters, service crew and carpenters to explore the two years of hard work that went into building the great ship. All of the children demonstrated how they could be outstanding owls, linking to our Learner Profiles, as they participated in a debate surrounding whose fault the sinking of the Titanic was. Could it have been the builders? Or was it the captain? There were lots of interesting points of view, however the children came to the conclusion that it was a mix of factors that led to the disaster.
Year 1 had a fantastic morning learning about the Titanic and it has provided them with a wealth of knowledge that they can carry forward to support the rest of their learning. Thank you to the Freshwater Theatre Company for providing Year 1 with an immersive experience which has given the children a stunning start to their learning.
