Year 4 had a fantastic time at Thames Young Mariners last week and were blessed with amazing weather, great scenery, an impressive array of flora and fauna (including two very friendly kingfishers) and teepee accommodation.
The whole trip was based around the children learning new skills and being able to demonstrate elements of Weston Green's our school values and Learner Profiles. Year 4 had the opportunity to participate in both land and water-based activities. Each morning, the children were treated to a hearty cooked breakfast which left them eager for the day’s activities. The children had opportunities to participate in target archery, bell boating, kayaking, forest skills (including making shelters, lighting fires and painting their faces with charcoal). They also worked together to complete a low rope course where communication and working as a team were key to completing the task.
The evenings were spent chilling out in tents, playing football, running around playing “it” or hide and seek or dancing to Mr. Morgan’s music. Year 4 were so enthusiastic and showed obvious teamwork and care towards one another from the day they arrived until the day they left. They have carried this on at school and it has galvanised their friendships and their cohesion as a year group.
The Year 4 team would like to thank Mr. Morgan and Mrs. Daniel for giving their time and joining us on the trip.
