Posted on: 24 Jun 2014 by Weston Green School | Category: Year 6
On Monday 9 June, Year 6 attended the Junior Citizen course held at Walton Upon Thames Fire Station run by Elmbridge Council. It was a great chance for the Year 6 children to learn valuable lessons in independence as they prepare for secondary school next year.
The children attended a range of short sessions hosted by different local services. These ranged from a talk from a member of the Fire Station to a lecture on stranger danger.
Highlights of the morning included entering a smoke filled room (they used a substitute for smoke) to simulate the experiences that fire personnel can expect during a fire. Another highlight was the talk from St. Johns Ambulance with instructions about how to put someone in the recovery position.
Year 6 had an excellent educational morning and had the opportunity to meet and be photographed with the Mayor of Elmbridge, who was visiting the scheme that morning.
