As a way of becoming more confident dealing with big numbers year 6 have been solving some interesting problems. First they had to work out how high a pile of 1,000,000 A4 sheets of printer paper would be, and then they had to work out how far around the world one million people holding hands would stretch. Finally, how many people would reach all the way around the world? They were given the helpful hint that the world's circumference is 40,000 km, and set about some measuring. They soon realised that a secure understanding of place value, and a little bit of clever thinking goes a long way!
