Year 5 have begun their first residential trip with a muddy mountain bike expedition through the woods of PGL's Barton Hall in Torquay. After an early start yesterday when they set off with year 6 in the early morning sunshine they had a smooth journey to Devon and arrived in time for a picnic lunch. This was followed by archery and mountain biking. Their skills were assessed - and the emphasis was on being able to ride slowly to maximise control - they were led off into the woods to try the challenging course through the red Devonshire mud. There were, inevitably, several falls into the soft grass, and even softer mud, but everyone took a risk, had a go, and showed great resilience - even the teachers! It was then time for dinner and an evening game of hide and seek around the site before collapsing into bed, tired but happy.
