Code Club is a nationwide initiative to teach children how to code. Its goal is to inspire pupils to build, share their ideas and learn about computational thinking.
They all start with Scratch which is a graphical programming language, developed at MIT. Pupils can drag and combine code blocks to make a range of programs, including animations, stories, musical instruments and games. Then they move onto HTML which is a language for describing and structuring web pages. HTML documents can include text, images, sound and video, using ‘tags’ to organise the content. Some pupils will move onto Python which is a general purpose, text-based programming language.
Issy - Yr5 – “I like coding club because I learn Scratch. I love Scratch because I love coding”
Thomas - Yr6 – “I like coding club because I get to code in Python and test things. I also get to play the games I make and share them with others! “
It is great to see both boys and girls enjoying and learning a new programming language in an informal setting. Code Club talks place every Monday from 1:00 - 1:30 pm. Come and join us.
