As the sun (and rain ) becomes a regular feature of our daily forecasts, the summer sports programme is in full flow. Year 3 & 4 have already travelled to The Study School for a cricket match. For many of the Year 3, this will be their first ever cricket match; in fact, one very excited Year 3 girl enquired on the way back to school following the fixture, “So was that a cricket match then?”
The Year 5 & 6 have already hosted The Study and Westbury House in athletics meetings, displaying a high level of performance and skill. We have some very talented athletes who thrive in the competitive nature of a fixture and this has been displayed in abundance so far.
As ever with Weston Green Sport we take huge pride in watching children who would previously viewed or labelled themselves as “non-sporty,” compete in a “sporty child” kind of way. It is thrilling to watch these children forget the fear of failure and strive to simply achieve their absolute best.
The weekly athletics medal competition is also underway in Key Stage 2 which involves track and field events being completed and all counting towards the final award of a gold, silver or bronze medal. This certainly stirs the competitive juices in all the children as they want to know their times and distances. Year 5 & 6 have the added motivation of breaking a school record for an individual event which could stand for many years to come!
With cricket and athletics being introduced into Year 1 & 2 games lessons, and Year 2 having a few athletics meetings to look forward to, the strength of Weston Green sport is sure to get stronger and stronger.
