We are really looking forward to introducing pilot Forest School sessions at Weston Green for Kindergarten children. The sessions are due to start after half term and will take place every Thursday afternoon.
I am currently undertaking a level three qualification as a Forest School Leader. I am now half way through the course and enjoying it immensely. The Forest School philosophy is a unique and valuable way of teaching children in a woodland environment. It originated in Scandinavia and was brought to England by a team of Nursery Nurses who were enthused by the many benefits children gained from this child-centred, play based pedagogy. Recent studies state that children who attend regular Forest School sessions become more independent, gain increased social skills and are better equipped to problem solve and manage risks. Studies also show that children are calmer and able to concentrate for longer periods of time in the classroom.
I have really enjoyed learning about the theory behind Forest School and I am looking forward to applying it at Weston Green.
I look forward to sharing more details again soon.
