Reception have gone book crazy this week! Each child has brought in their favourite book from home to commemorate World Book Day; an annual day in the UK and Ireland that celebrates the pleasures of books and reading. It has provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to practise speaking and listening skills in small groups as well as encouraging them to question one another about their choices. Book types have ranged from traditional fairytales to non-fiction literature and somebody has even shared a recipe book; watch out Nigella Lawson!!
On Monday, children drew an illustration of their own featuring a favourite character or scene from their book and wrote about why they liked it. In a world dominated by ICT, it is amazing to see the awe and wonder that is still inspired by turning through the pages of a book.
