KS1 have started an exciting new initiative this term to help encourage children to develop their expression when reading aloud to an audience. In every KS1 class, two children a week are being asked to go and read to the year group below them and are crowned the ‘Royal Readers’ of the week. Last week the eight children involved launched the scheme wonderfully, reading to their peers with fluency, expression and confidence. The children selected their own pieces to read and were encouraged to bring in a book that was special to them so they could share this with others. I am sure the ‘Royal Readers’ for the rest of the term will enjoy the challenge of reading aloud to others and sharing books they have grown to love over the year.
