This year's focus for maths week was stories. The week began in style with a swashbuckling mathematical, piratical show from the Quantum theatre company who performed the tale of "Captain Half Inch". Having seen an excellent example of how maths can be woven into a story to great effect, and having enjoyed some maths story books read to them in class, including the delightful story of Sir Cumference and his knights, the children then set about writing their own stories. There were some really super examples including tales of numbers attending a party in number bond pairs, counting walks, the adventures of Fractionstein, the maths diary of a Wimpy Kid and so many more. Winners of the best maths story competition were: Ben in year 2, Saisha in year 4 and Alice in year 5, who each received a maths story book.
