This time last week year 5 were enjoying the delights of Normandy. After two amazing days of bread making, cycling, archery, aero ball and fencing they spent the penultimate day of their 5-day trip on a trip to Bayeux and then on to the WWII cemetery at Ravillon and the amazing museum at the very important site of Pegasus bridge.
Just as the VE day assembly and celebrations back at school had helped the children reflect on the meaning of the outcome of WWII and the value of freedom and democracy, so their visit to these historic sites in France helped them to appreciate how and why lives were lost in two historic wars. This was, in some ways, a sobering moment for the children, but they showed how much they had grown up during the trip in some of their very mature and sensitive comments about the very young and brave men who lost their lives.
