The first Inter Faith week in the UK took place in 2009 and the main objective was to bring people with different religions and beliefs together. It has since become an annual event and for the first time, WGS took part in Inter Faith Week this year. It took place from 16 to 22 November and it offered us the wonderful opportunity to celebrate the richness and diversity of faith in our school. Ian Whitley and Susan Ross from All Saints Weston Green visited the school during the week and told the pupils in Key Stages 1 and 2 the story of World Communion. It helped our pupils to reflect and remember that we are in a physical and spiritual communion with one another and that we all share our wonderful planet!
As part of the celebration, we created an inter faith prayer area in the form of a wigwam tent in the Music studio where the pupils of Weston Green School could go for prayer, reflection or to have some quiet time throughout this period. There were also a couple of prayer trees and they could write a prayer or a thought on a leaf to hang on the tree. This area was representative of all the faiths of the pupils in our school with artefacts that were kindly lent to us by some of our parents.
The prayer area was very popular and was visited by many of the pupils. It was deemed to be very successful and we are hoping to make it an annual event.
