This week selected children from years 2-6 had the chance to visit Wembley Stadium. This exciting opportunity offered the children the chance to both experience and tour the iconic ground and learn about ‘Wembley Legends’. The children started their day by exploring behind the scenes of the stadium, admiring trophies, visiting dressing rooms and walking down the tunnel to the famous pitch. While the children thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the history of the stadium, they were also encouraged to look at the different ‘Wembley Legends’ that feature heavily throughout the decor. The children were told of visits to Wembley by Nelson Mandela, Bob Geldolf (to launch the Live Aid concerts), Elton John and sporting heroes of time gone by including Evel Knievel, Muhammad Ali and Bobby More. Once the children had been told interesting and detailed stories about these legends they were asked to consider who their own heroes were. They spent their afternoon writing biographies about either their own personal hero or one of the ‘Wembley Legends’. The day was rewarding for all involved and got the children to think about who they admire and why. So we ask you the question too, who is your hero?
