… with a visit from a Victorian workshop. Both classes took part in all the household chores and tasks which came from living in a stately home. Firstly, after a night’s sleep in the attic, the children had to walk downstairs by candle light, then they had to have a good wash in warm water. After that the children all helped with the washing and ironing, learning how chores were done differently from today and that ironing wasn't as simple as just plugging into the wall, nor did you just put clothes in the washing machine. The children then helped with cooking and preparing the main meal of roast pig’s head, before finally being treated with a chance to finish their day in the nursery and have a play with some toys from long ago.
This was a great experience for all the children, as it was very engaging and introduced them to actual tools and equipment used in the past. Plus it linked very well with the current topic of toys from long ago.
