This week year 2 have been learning about non-fiction texts, focusing on the key features of layout and language. The children have already begun to produce their own non-fiction books about Queen Victoria – linked to our History topic ‘Famous people from the past’.
In our English lessons we have used a variety of non-fiction texts and have given the children the chance to learn about how these types of books are organised, including a contents page, index and glossary along with photographs, captions and headings. The children have used their knowledge of non-fiction texts and have carried out their own research about Queen Victoria to write their own book. They have thought carefully about all the different features of non-fiction books and included them in their Queen Victoria books. They are eager to finish them and regularly use a checklist to improve and edit their work. We are hoping they will be finished very soon, ready for a display!
