Year 4 pupils found there is only one way to get the New Year off on the right foot: designing a stunning calendar that will remind them to stay creative all year long.
Having spent time researching the work of the famous Austrian artist Gustav Klimt during their art lessons last term, they were inspired to produce their own interpretation of his famous Tree of Life painting as the design for their calendars.
The Tree of Life is an important symbol in many cultures and religions throughout the world. It represents wisdom, protection, strength, and beauty with its branches reaching up into the sky and its roots still bound deep down into the earth. The swirled branches make people want to keep looking at the painting to explore and find more. Even with the mixed up patterns and swirly branches, we still will always recognize it as The Tree of Life.
Designing their own special Tree of Life for their 2015 calendar, was a great opportunity for the Year 4 pupils to use their own creativity and style to create a piece of art all their own. Klimt’s paintings are very beautiful with the richness of gold paint and other luxurious techniques to illustrate a magical world, but what is even better, is seeing how children use the piece as inspiration for their own work.
