Year 4 enjoyed some hands-on maths today when they weighed a variety of vegetables borrowed from the kitchen. They carefully made sure that they had set the scales to zero before taking it in turns to weigh the items and read off the scale - one of those things which is very tricky for children, who often lack practical experience, but something we take for granted as adults. Mrs Hawkins then weighed out 400g of dried pasta and asked the children to predict whether it would be heavier or lighter once it had been left to soak in water overnight. Sean suggested it would absorb the water and so be heavier and the class agreed. Watch this space for the results!
