Last week Mrs Hawkins was invited to take along mathematicians to a challenge morning at Epsom College. It wasn't easy to pick the team - year 5 are all great mathematicians, but in the end the intrepid four - Sam, Thomas, Amelie and Saisha - set off for Epsom. Once there they quickly chose their team t-shirts and got on with some tough warm-up exercises. Before long it was time to start the challenge in earnest, competiting against 14 other teams of similiar ages in three rounds of really taxing maths, including the final fast-paced relay round which involved lots of running as well as hard maths!
Weston Green didn't win, but they did have a lot of fun, learnt some new maths and, particularly, displayed all the learner profile characteristics in the way they worked on the morning. And they finished the morning with a hearty lunch of nuggets and chips which fuelled them for the swimming gala that aftertnoon!
