Yesterday year 5, along with the children from years 3 and 4, travelled to Roald Dahl's home village of Great Missenden, to visit the museum bearing his name, and to walk around his village, seeing the sights which had inspired his wonderful stories.
They saw the inspiration for the orphanage where Sophie looked out and first saw the BFG, the petrol pumps where Danny (Champion of the World)'s dad worked, and the post office which regularly received 4000 fan letters a week! They visited the moving sight of Roald Dahl's grave and the beautiful memorial seat overlooking it, and in the museum they heard a fascinating talk about his writing hut and strict writing routine, followed by the opportunity to use their imaginations in the story room.
What a brilliant way to fuel the children's creative minds at the start of a new term!
