This term year 6 have been learning how to use SketchUp. It is a 3D modelling program for a wide range of drawing applications such as architecture, interior design and landscape. It helps to visualise geometry and other mathematical concepts easily. Pupils have created a 3D castle using various tools and were instructed to focus on geometric principles and basic physics. Pupils were fascinated when their 2D drawing turned into a 3D model which is done by using the push or pull button.
They have also learned how to use Sculptris which is a virtual 3D sculpting software program, with a primary focus on the concept of modelling clay. Pupils start off with a sphere to create a face by using the crease, draw, flatten, pinch and inflate tools. They also learn about symmetry which allows them to sculpt one side of their model and have the other side update at the same time.
Both Sketch up and Sculptris are free to download.
