Year 6 get to the heart of science

Year 6 had a real treat this week. After spending the last few weeks studying the heart and circulatory system in detail, they got their hands on and dissected a lamb’s hearts. As one pupil exclaimed, "Wow my brother's in Year 8 and he has only just got to do this!”

With guidance, the children were able to make incisions through the muscle, identify the major chambers (ventricles and atria), distinguish between the left and right sides of the heart and explain why there was a difference in muscle thickness between the two.

It really was hands on learning at its best!!!   To see a video of their dissection work click here.
