Free Sports Club | Runarounders

Free sports class for 3-5 year olds

Ball skills, co-ordination and other transferable sport skills will be tackled in this fun Friday frenzy with Mr Sagar! Aimed at 3-5 year olds, Runarounders is a free sports club designed to give active boys and girls an opportunity to build on their enjoyment of physical activity and introduce basic skills.

Aimed at improving co-ordination, encouraging enjoyment of sport and building on the physical skills they’ll need as they grow, Runarounders is the perfect way to introduce your child to sport and PE before they start school.

Our Head of Sport, Mr Sagar, teaches across our school, delivering lessons to our nursery and Reception children right through to our Year 6 A teams. His understanding of junior sport and physical development informs his sessions and our pupils love his fun, engaging lessons.

The session:

Our Head of Sport, Mr Sagar, will deliver a fun session of games and activities, taking place at our school’s on-site astro. After 30 minutes of running about, we’ll retreat to our lovely outdoor classroom for cups of warm milk or cocoa.

Younger siblings are welcome to join us but we will be outdoors so do wrap up warm!

Free parking is available on local roads and we have bike racks available for bikes or scooters.

How to sign up:

To book a place for your child, simply fill in our short form (at the bottom of the page) and let us know which sessions you plan to attend. We’ll drop you a quick reply to confirm and send you a handy reminder before each session.

Why join our Free Sports Club “Runarounders”?

Runarounders offers parents a free and easy way to introduce their child to organised sports lessons. Listening to instructions and participating in exercises is excellent practice for children who are approaching Reception. By joining our free classes, your child will have a head-start in their ability to access and progress in physical education and sport lessons going forward.

Our club is playful and fun, with no sky-high expectations or pressure to build towards a particular sport. Runarounders is about instilling a love of being active with low commitment from parents.

What makes Runarounders different?

Our free sports club is different because we are free and flexible! There is no need to sign up to an entire term of classes. Come along when you can (we just ask that you let us know via our form so we can plan our sessions) and enjoy the expertise of our Head of Sport, Mr Sagar.

How will this help my child feel Reception Ready?

The skills we work on during the class will benefit children across their physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.

Fundamental movement skills (FMS) like running, jumping, hopping, throwing, and balancing are refined whilst enhancing their spatial awareness, bilateral coordination and reaction time. Meanwhile, weight-bearing activity builds bone density and muscular strength during this crucial growth window.

Group play teaches early social skills like turn-taking, sharing space and reading peers’ non-verbal cues. These are essential skills for navigating the Reception classroom. Furthermore, play creates an inclusive environment, where children connect through shared energy and participation.

Physical exertion releases neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine, helping young children regulate their energy and pay better attention during quiet activities, while active play sharpens working memory, flexible thinking and self-control. In addition, physical movement is one of the most effective ways for toddlers to release tension, express frustration, and process big emotions.

And to top it all off, regular activity promotes deeper, more consistent nighttime sleep and smoother bedtime routines – hooray!
