Head Teachers blog – March 2023

Posted: 26th March 2023

As we break for the Easter holidays and hopefully some warmer and drier days ahead, we can reflect on a term full of wonderful learning, exciting opportunities and all we have achieved together.

A particular joy in the last week was to attend the performances of our KS1 children. The Spring Show this year was a glorious, feel good hour of fantastic storytelling and pure entertainment which cleverly showcased the amazing talents of all our children across Year 1 & Year 2. Directed by Miss Barrett, the show brought out the children’s confidence and natural abilities, in a production which shone with the children’s enjoyment as well as conveying a lovely message about friendship. It was wonderful to see and we can’t wait to see what this talented bunch do next as they progress through into KS2 and enjoy the further opportunities for drama, music and performances there too!

Our sports success this term has also been incredible with teams competing both regionally and nationally and being ranked amongst the top teams in all ISA schools across the country. Given our relatively small school size, the sports coaches develop teams with ambition and commitment, and with a level of skill that enables them to compete at an extremely high level. Hosting the ISA Mixed Hockey regionals at OC’s was again a proud moment for our school and followed our home grown Netball and Football tournaments for Year 2, again hosted on site. Congratulations to everyone who has represented our school in the full programme of fixtures and sports events this term.

Of particular note must be to celebrate the achievements of our Year 6 cohort in their 11+ entrance exams and who, as a group, again achieved a phenomenal set of results. We are incredibly proud of their 64 offers and 16 scholarships, ensuring again that all children gained a place at a school of their choice, with 25% of these linked with scholarships. Several of our children received offers from all of their school applications and should be particularly commended. The Headteachers of these schools speak highly of the entrants from Weston Green, who present themselves as well rounded, confident individuals, able to speak of their personal achievements and interests, and who come across as characterful, personable young people. We could not be more proud of them.

I have highlighted just a few, but the term has been full of opportunities for creative and extended enrichment as well as celebration of some stunning achievements. Our focus this year is to shine a spotlight on our academic success and your feedback certainly confirms that this has been noticed. We are proud of this aspect of our school and how well it sits alongside our strong reputation for the pastoral care and the well being of our children.

Time now to rest and recharge! We hope you all have a wonderful Easter break and we look forward to seeing you in the Summer Term.
