This week Weston Green School hosted the annual Year 2 football festival for the first time in three years. Despite the weather being just below freezing, this did not affect the children’s resolve or enjoyment. With three schools visiting for the festival (The Orchard, Claygate Primary, Wandsworth Prep) and with six teams taking place, there was plenty of football to be enjoyed for both children and parents.
Throughout the round robin section of the festival there were plenty of moments of brilliance, from long range shots, reflex saves and last ditch tackles with children showing great teamwork, communication and energy for their respective teams. In the end, it came down to Weston Green facing The Orchard in the final and despite extra time being played, the teams could not be separated and as such, the festival trophy was shared for only the second time ever.
Thank you to all the children who showed their competitive spirit in a friendly environment and for all the parents who braved the freezing conditions to support.
