As we reach the midpoint of this summer term, the increasing warmth of the summer sun has shone brightly on the achievements of our children. Providing opportunities for children to take part in, and showcase their talent through, external competition builds confidence and resilience whilst developing personal skills and aptitudes. It is equally important that these opportunities are there for children across a broad range of subject areas, with this term alone featuring debating, art, storytelling, regional and national sports. Two teams represented Weston Green at the Bellevue Debating Competition at The Oratory School near Reading. Teaching children the techniques of effecting debating through their English curriculum, practicing within school and then supporting the teams in their verbal battle against others has brought them confidence in these essential life skills.
Following a packed term of fixtures, and regional representation at the ISA Cricket, we were particularly proud to host the Regional ISA Athletics competition last week at the Excel Centre in Walton. With 22 schools from around the southern region the competition was fierce, with some incredible talent from children between Year 3-6. We proudly returned with a haul of medals and are excited for Talia Summers and Freddie Moon who qualified for the National Finals in June!
The term ended with the news that our Reception Class, under the guidance of Mrs Mossop had become national winners of the ISA Storytelling Competition 2023. Collectively creating, sequencing and retelling their story, the class had lots of fun inventing a fun tale of aliens and their space rocket journey. At our final school assembly this week, the class were proud to present their story to the whole school, showing such confidence and pleasure in their achievements!
We are enormously proud of everyone who has stretched themselves this term to take part in the many competitions, both internal and externally, we offer. We are continuing to broaden the range and look forward to many more achievements to come.
We wish you and your family a wonderful half term break.
