October 2022 – Head’s Newsletter

Posted: 19th October 2022

As we finish for the half term break accompanied by the most glorious of Autumn days, it has been lovely to attend the wonderful Harvest Celebrations from Kindergarten to Year 6. Thoughtful prayers, poems and songs have all conveyed how much the children have been thinking of others at this time, understanding the need to share our relative abundance with those in need on our doorstep. Thank you for your gifts of food and provisions, which will be sent to the Elmbridge Food Bank and Princess Alice Hospice, alongside the monetary donations too. We have raised over £500 which will be split between the church and the Food Bank. Thank you.

School Priorities

As the children begin their well deserved break, we can reflect on the busiest of starts to the school year!  I hope many of you have noticed the improvements we have been making to our communications, from a revamped Weekly Bulletin, a one stop shop for all that’s happening in school life, to an increased social media presence. These form part of our school priority this year, to keep you, as part of WGS, and also any prospective parents, informed about life at Weston Green.

Our focus particularly is to communicate more about the academic side of our school, how we strive for academic excellence and enrichment as a core part of what we do. This is not something we have routinely communicated in the past, but we have so much to say as children at WGS academically achieve so well!

So you will notice a focus on learning and progress within our social media posts, more information and workshops for parents about what and how we teach various elements of our curriculum, the academic expectations and opportunities for our children, as well as an extended extra curricular offer.

Keep an eye out for our new emphasis on  “A glimpse into…”  , a regular post about a particular subject area in school, by our in-house specialist teachers.

Through these initiatives and more, we hope to demonstrate the all round excellence children experience at Weston Green, immense enjoyment and breadth of opportunity, combined with a drive and focus for children to achieve their academic potential and future success.

As ever we would like to hear your feedback on these initiatives, and will continue to keep you informed and updated on their progress.

In the meantime we wish all our families a restful half term break.
